Splashdown Water Park
The Fon du Lac Park District regrets to inform the public that we are closing our Splashdown Water Park due to increased maintenance costs for replacement of our filtration system. Over the last several months, we have researched the best options to keep our water park open. Unfortunately, after reviewing all our options, we feel that it is in the best interest of the District and our tax payers that we shut the entire facility down. We have come to this conclusion based on the following facts:
Total cost to open entire facility for 2018 would exceed what the Park District can financially handle ($266,000). This would include replacing one complete filtration system and other maintenance issues.
In 2019, we would need to spend an additional $220,000 to replace the second filtration system.
Our Water Park has lost over $400,000 during the last 4-year period due to increased maintenance issues, i.e. replacement of worn out pumps, filters and parts for the attractions. Our main issue is that the company that provided our current filtration system has filed Chapter 7 and no longer makes replacement parts for our outdated equipment. We also have the unknown as to the life expectancy of the electrical components and plumbing in our mechanical room due to excessive corrosion over the last 21 years.
Based on the above information, we do not feel it is in the best interest of the District or our tax payers to continue to subsidize or operate this facility at such a loss. To continue to operate at this level would deplete our General Fund.
Since there has been no outside interest in purchasing the facility, the facility has been slated for demolition.
We will also be soliciting input from the community as to what their future needs are for a community pool.
